PostSubject: My new toy   7/9/2010, 10:02 am

About 2 months ago, I sold my Goldwing as I had grown tired of riding it around town. Don't get me wrong, it was a great bike, but a daily commuter it is not. I got a wild hair to go get another bike, and since I missed my RS Warrior as a great daily bike, I decided to look for something similar, but with a little more long range comfort as well. I ended up with a 2009 Vmax that was leftover stock, so I got a good deal on it. This thing flat rips! I have ridden all sorts of bikes in my time, and this one is a little scary. It is just like a gun, make sure you know what you are pointing at before you pull the trigger, because it will be where you were just looking before you are ready if you aren't paying attention. Yamaha claims 200 hp, but that is at the crank. From the showroom these bikes, on average, are making 175 hp, but deleting the CAT and modifying the ECU, guys are regularly making 196+ hp. Obviously that will be the first thing I do. I have only managed about 120 miles on it in the week I have had it as I have been super busy with work. But in that time I have realized I made a good decision. The 'Wing was a great bike, but I rode it way too hard trying to have fun, and that is not what it was made for. With the Vmax, I feel more connected to the bike, and the return is much greater. And the ability to blow away most everything else on the road is nice too, lol. I will likely take a trip to the Oregon coast here a few weeks, so I'll get a good idea of the long range comfort of the bike then. If anyone has a road bike an would like to ride, let me know. Otherwise, I will see everyone on the trail.

Does the frame still flex when you hit road turtles like on the old one? Looks like a great bike for hooligananery. Proper front forks and brakes too, what is the world coming to? Nicely done. Troy341

Yes, mine and my brother's. It is a '68 with a balanced/bluprinted 440, Holley 850, MSD ignition, power steering and air conditioning removed for less parasitic loss. Just shy of 600 hp at the rear wheels. It is ridiculous.

This does not ride at all like the Gen 1 Vmaxes. I spent some time on one back in the '90's, and this is nothing like one at all. I remember running into corners, leaning over, and fighting to hold a line as the whole bike wobbled as the frame flexed at the head stock. In comparison, the new 'Max is as rock solid as a nearly 600 lb. can be. Yes its heavy, but it transitions exceptionally well side to side. It just feels like an overgrown sportbike. The brakes are amazing! 320mm dual discs mated to 6 piston, radial mounted calipers. GP stuff man! LOL I think I dislocated my right eye first time grabbed a handful. And honestly, the hooligan aspect was top of my list for my next bike, and that is what I got here.

You realize that bike is the perfect complement to that Charger. Big, powerful, fast in a straight line muscle car/bike. On another note, Arik did a nice job on the party bus, is that yours too? Troy341

Yeah, the party bus is ours. Arik completely gutted the thing, and did all of the cool electronics inside. Its way fun!

And the Charger and Max are a good match. But don't be fooled by the size of the bike. It is not anything like a 1st generation V Max. This one actually handles. It is not quite on par with your Gixxer, but the only real limiting factor is ground clearance. The brakes are astounding, and there is no frame flex to speak of.

I was thinking of bringing it to the Naches gathering, but you have officially freaked me out, and want it nowhere near you. You kill me Inspector!
