Just bought a new used bike.  At least I think i did. Haven't brought anything home yet.  I did on the other hand pay for some tires and have them sent to an address that I don't even know what is there.  Did i just get screwed? confused

Sadly said bike is NOT a dirty bike.

*on the other side i get to ride this weekend on the Beta for the first time in almost a month!

Took way longer than i thought to get her home.  Guy actually delivered it.  A little scared to go down to the DMV and see what they say..LOL
Now the more I read up on it the less I know and the more worried I get about parts and problems.

Already replacing parts.   Gahhh

Runs great except for a tick when warming up.  Waiting on gaskets from Japan before i tackle the valve clearances.

Replaced right hand switch assy.  Grrrr not fun.  Had to splice wires to get a different part to work.
Replacing radiator cap.  Grrrr.  Hope that is the reason for coolant leak, otherwise have to take it all apart again to find the problem.
Replacing valve gaskets.  Grrrr. I knew about the leak but had no idea it would be such a hassle to get replacement gasket.  Hopefully the valves are good when i get in there.
Replaced part of the fuel petcock.  Grrrr.  Can't buy a replacement for the whole assembly only the part i don't think it's leaking.  Hell, I don't think it leaked to begin with but replace anyway since the other owner said it did and even gave me the part number for the replacement piece.
Front and back shocks need replacing.  Grrrr.
Chain for some odd reason is non-oring.  Grrrr.  Will replace that after some more miles and wear.

Welcome to the joy of owning vintage Hondas! It always takes a while to get everything sorted out. Parts can be a joy to locate also. I just picked up a 87 XL600 that need lots of bugs worked out.

You probably can't see from the photos, but this is a 1981 Honda GL500 with sidecar... Too much fun.  My dog loves it.  Nice to see somebody posting on this site.  I hate to see it die.  Bike is bullet proof.  I had a Ural before this.  Both are under powered, but lot's less money tied up in this one, so I plan on keeping it in the heard for a long time.

Over the Holidays I was able to sneak out twice.  Only for about an hour each time.  Took forever to warm up after since i'm just in jeans, lol.
It's funny cause sometimes i get on the gas and wait, and wait, and wait, for it to kick in.  Not used to the steady V-power, haha.  I say that but i'm pretty timid on her for the most part.  So afraid of blowing it up.

I did experience what i would maybe call a false neutral between 5th and 6th.  Nothing like anything I've experience before though.  Swear the power just dropped off like people describe when a valve drops but with no other symptoms.  Thinking it was just me though not used to the bike.

Valve cover stopped leaking.  Guessing the seals have swelled back up a little with use.  Still plan to tear into it and measure them.
Gas doesn't leak....I never noticed it leaking but just going off what the previous owner said and replaced a couple parts in the petcock.  Hopefully all good.
Also replace the radiator cap and haven't noticed any leaking coolant.  Of course it's very cold now and that might change when the weather warms up.

All in all it's a fun bike.  Just a little buyers remorse since i really want something bigger and more reliable for longer trips.  Can't afford anything else right now though.  I do plan on riding down to AZ in 2018 at the latest and if this thing is still running will take it.  If not hopefully I will have bought another.

That's fantastic that you got out for awhile with the weather. Seems like winter is hanging on for awhile. Also that you got it started and out without a hitch twice. I'm glad it is working out to be such a good deal, even if underpowered.
