History

I got this bike in 2002 when my neighbor moved out of the country, leaving it in their driveway to rust as the house was sold. It was in pretty sorry shape back then, a combination of use and neglect but with only 3000 original miles on it. Realizing they had left it, I got in contact with them to see if I could have the bike and if they would like anything for it. They replied saying I could take the bike for free if I would give it a good home, which I gladly accepted.

The bike sat in my garage for a few years before I really got into rebuilding it as my senior project in highschool. For the project I did a ground up rebuild, replacing every nearly every seal, new rings, clutch, rebuilt carb, etc. etc. I also stripped the bike down to the frame and painted it with some rustoleum, and had the oil/gas tanks and headlight/forks professionally painted. Since completion rebuilding it in 2004, the bike had only seen 80 miles. It has been sitting under a cover in the garage while I completed college and found a full time job. Now that I am working, I finally got it out of the garage and started riding it around and I have to say it is a blast to ride.

I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking...

I too covered a lot of trail miles on a Yami 175 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am quite sure the muffler heat shield on your bike is not factory.

In taking another closer look, I believe your whole muffler assembly is an after market item.

The exhaust system is a complete bolt-on system which is aftermarket, it was on the bike when I purchased it. It dates to the 70's and is called a 'hooker header.'

Thanks for the comments, here are some more pictures of the bike! It's gone a little more street than expected...

Super cool, The hooker company is the same as the car exhaust company. I had no idea they did any bike stuff except mufflers now days. The heart is thier logo on the box and stickers and stamped into the name tag they weld on to headers for cars... That bike is a lot like the one I had a model of when I was a kid, I can not remember the kit manufacturer. Very nice resto job on your part.

I had the 125 CC version, as I remember the 175 just got a bigger jug.  What a wonderful bike for the day - oil injection and ran like a top!
