My clutch cover was getting pretty worn looking after 132hrs of use so I decided a powdercoat job was in order to freshen it up a bit. I headed over to StuckinMud's house and we had it powdercoated minitex black in no time. I added the orange paint into the recessed areas to finish it off. Came out looking pretty sweet. cheers

Hmmmm....That water pump cover might look good in black also Evil6

I love powder coating, durable as all get out, while still attractive looking. That bike is so purty, it would almost be a shame to get it dirty. BTW, I see a Buell banner on the wall behind it. You have one?

I've owned a few Buell's, all S1 Lightnings. Here's a pic of my last S1...highly modified. I'd still like to find a clean S3 to play with.

I used a harbor freight powder coating gun and a friends powder coating oven, although you could use a small toaster oven to do the baking. I used Minitex black powder (slightly textured satin) from columbia powder coating.

You first need to strip the OEM powder off the cover, paint stripper and a sand blaster works great. Use some high temp tape (made for powder coating) to mask off the gasket surface on the back side of the cover to keep the powder off that area. Spray the powder and bake (times and temps included with the specific powder you choose). For the trim I bought some orange model paint from a hobby store and a super small brush. Take the brush and drip small amounts into the recessed area letting it flow through the groove in the cover, this will give you a nice smooth fill and even edges. Takes a while to do but looks great when you get it done. Mine has been holding up excellent so far.

I thought about making some to sell but there is just to much time invested in each cover, I would have to ask way to much to make them worth selling.

If you make one up post up some pics thumb

Both L&R side covers.

This kit is THE cat's meow.  Kit is well made, great value, just amazing.  I'd say 90% of the work is making sure the metal is BARE and clean, and probably the most important thing is tape off what you don't want powdercoated because it's a bitch to get off what is electrically pulled on...which is exactly what we want, essentially, right?

I had zero issues just using a natural gas oven in the kitchen.  But I guess I need to say: "Don't do this", so, don't do this

Yeah its handy go have that setup around for sure.  It does release some pretty toxic gasses when baking, an outside dedicated oven is defiantly advised.

Well that's weird - there was no smell whatsoever from my operation.  But still officially I say "Don't do what I did"
